Design Board: Woodland Nursery

The drywall is all hung and finishing has begun in the nursery. This means we are only a few steps away from painting the walls and moving in furniture — EEK! As you can imagine, I’ve had the design of our nursery prepared for several months, but it has changed a few times.

At first, I had full intentions to paint the “crib wall” a gray-green color as an accented wall, and the other three walls a warm white. I also wanted to add minimalistic peel-and-stick decals on the accent wall. I found some adorable artsy pine tree decals on Etsy, but decided to wait knowing I would probably rethink my design concept.

I was right! A month or two later and I had completely changed my mind. I now wanted to paint the walls a soft beige and install four-foot high bead board along each wall. The bead board would have been painted a gray-green color to accent the sage wall hangings I have picked out. However, as Grant was handing drywall he discovered that our charming old house is anything but square. Due to previous owners removing a load-bearing wall from the living room, the front of the house has “sunk” almost three inches. This discovery had led us to begin the living remodel sooner than expected — we will be removing wooden ceiling beams and wooden headers to replace with steel and jacking the entire house to more even dimensions. This means over the next year or two our newly hung nursery drywall will undoubtedly crack.

So we regrouped and decided to make the best of this minor setback. We are completing the nursery’s walls, but will simply paint them with the full knowledge new drywall will need to be hung on the interior walls once the living room project is complete. I’m still undecided on the color. Should I go with a warm white, a soft beige, or a light-medium beige? Decisions, decisions…

While I banter back-and-forth with myself on wall colors, other components of the nursery are ready for move-in. The furniture is a mix of white and light natural wood, the curtains and wall hangings board muted sage colors, and there are cute and tasteful baby woodland creature details throughout. Most of the nursery’s accents were found at thrift stores or handmade by this mama-to-be. Inspiration struck through a medley of minimalistic, woodland nurseries on Pinterest, and I created this design board to help my own ideas take form:

As the day draws near when we can finally paint the walls and finish our nursery, I will share a walk-through with you all.

Until then!
