If you’ve been following my writing journey for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve spent a lot of time talking about Vireth, the world where The White Feather Saga takes place.
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to Pnereth.
This wasn’t a change I expected to make, but in hindsight, I think it may have been exactly the right one
An Unexpected Conversation
This past weekend, another aspiring fantasy author reached out to me with a thoughtful message. She shared that she, too, had independently created a fantasy world named Vireth and was preparing to begin querying her novel. Our worlds were developed completely independently, yet we had arrived at the same name.
Rather than discovering this years from now after publication, she chose to reach out with kindness and transparency. I appreciated that more than I can express, and I sincerely wish her every success as she navigates the querying process.
Publishing is built on community as much as creativity, and this interaction reminded me of that. And though my version of Vireth has been cooking for nearly three years, I am still in the drafting phase of Book One. M. R. Campbell, though, is almost through with edits to her 85,000 word manuscript with intentions to begin querying soon.
In short, she is farther into the process than me.
So, with all this in mind, I have chosen to step away from the name Vireth and uncover something different, and even more fitting…
Why Change It?
Technically, two creators can sometimes arrive at the same fictional name. But as I thought about it, I realized this story has grown into far more than a single manuscript.
It has become:
- An immersive newsletter
- A detailed encyclopedia through my website
- At least three future novels set within the White Feather Saga
- And, hopefully, a place readers will return to for years.
I wanted that world to have a name that was unmistakably its own. So, instead of viewing this as something lost, I chose to see it as an opportunity to discover a name that fit my world’s mythology even better.
And I have decided on something new and exciting and even better for my fantasy world… Let me introduce you to the world of Pnereth.
Why Pnereth?
One of the questions I asked myself was: What is truly the origin of this story?
While virtue is woven throughout the world, the foundation of my magic system has always been something deeper. Everything begins with breath. With life. With a single soul-thread. It is, simply, how the mortal realm came to be.
The name Pnereth is inspired by the Ancient Greek word pneuma (πνεῦμα), meaning breath, spirit, or life-force. That concept sits at the very heart of this world. Aether is not merely magical energy. It is the living breath woven through creation itself.
In many ways, Pnereth feels less like a replacement and more like a name I simply hadn’t discovered yet.
For those curious, Pnereth is pronounced (puh-NEHR-eth). While the “p” is silent in English, in ancient Greek, the “p” is distinctly pronounced before the “n”.
A World Reborn
One of the things I came to appreciate most during this process was how naturally Pnereth fits alongside the other realms of my world’s mythology.
- Virturra — the divine realm. Its name draws from virtue and terra (”land”), literally meaning the virtuous land. According to the Tetrad Concordance, entry into Virturra is not earned through power or birth, but through a life lived in balance. Those who faithfully pursue the Octave, the eight highest virtues that guide the peoples of Pnereth, are believed to return to Virturra after death.
- Pnereth — the mortal realm. Inspired by the Ancient Greek word pneuma, meaning breath, spirit, or life-force. Here, breath is more than respiration, it is the source of aether and the living essence woven through every person and every corner of the world.
- Vict — the underworld. A simple play on the word vice, its name reflects the realm’s association with corruption, imbalance, and separation from eternal paradise. Where Virturra represents the fulfillment of virtue, Vict stands as its inversion.
Together, these three realms tell the story at the heart of the White Feather Saga: Life begins with breath. It is shaped by virtue. And it is always tempted by vice.
In hindsight, I couldn’t have asked for a name that better captures the foundation of this world.
What Changes?
Honestly? Not much. Vayda is still Vayda. The White Feather Saga is still the White Feather Saga. The Concord still stands. The politics, the prophecies, the aether, the Trials, the cultures, and every story I’ve shared with you remain exactly the same.
Only the name of the world has changed.

This special edition marks the beginning of a new chapter, not just for my story, but for this community. Over the coming weeks you’ll begin seeing Pnereth appear throughout my website, newsletter, maps, and social media as I slowly update everything.
