Common Definition:

The Halls of Aura are the central scholarly institution of the Concord and the largest repository of recorded knowledge in Pnereth. Located in Hallward, along the mainland cliffs of Sentra, the Halls serve as the principal seat of education and training for the Sophontes and Horisto Orders, as well as the preservation, study, and advancement of historical, civic, and magical knowledge.

The institution consists of four Grand Halls—the Hall of Record, Hall of Instruction, Hall of Practice, and Hall of Doctrine—arranged around the Grand Library, the largest known library in Pnereth.

Although commonly regarded as a tertiary academy, the Halls function equally as an archive, research institution, civil-service training complex, and fortified repository. Their collections include historical records, Concord treaties, maps, genealogies, linguistic works, magical scholarship, manuscripts, and other materials deemed essential to the preservation of collective knowledge.

Historical Context:

The Halls of Aura were established in the aftermath of the Burning of Venna. Before its destruction, Venna had been among Pnereth’s greatest centers of scholarship, housing extensive collections belonging to early Sophontes and Horisto scholars. When the city burned, generations of historical records, magical research, manuscripts, and cultural knowledge were lost with it.

The catastrophe transformed preservation from a scholarly concern into an institutional imperative. The Halls were subsequently raised in Sentra under a principle that continues to define their purpose: Knowledge must survive any catastrophe.

Their name memorializes Aura and the knowledge lost at Venna, rather than the location of the institution itself. The resulting complex was deliberately constructed as a fortified archive-monastery: records descend into protected subterranean collections, essential works may be reproduced in stone-inscribed codices, and experimental magical facilities are physically separated from the most valuable archives.

Ironically, the lesson drawn from Venna’s destruction resulted in an unprecedented centralization of knowledge. The Concord sought to protect scholarship by gathering, cataloguing, duplicating, and regulating it within a single institution, a philosophy that continues to shape both the Halls and the Orders educated within them.
